DO THIS:
WEAR YELLLOW
The Tour de France is a sacred time in
our house. I am married to an ex-road-bike-racer from Austin, TX, home
of Lance Armstrong. Every morning we get up and tune our TVs to OLN to
catch the live broadcast of the Tour. Today happens to be a rest day, so
I, too, get a rest--from the TV.
Last year I wrote about Lance Armstrong
in an article called "Smell Like Success," which contained
hints on giving the illusion of being more successful than you might be.
You can read that issue at http://www.artbizcoach.com/dothis/smell-like-success.shtml
This year, I am wearing yellow again. The
yellow represents not only the maillot jaune (the yellow jersey of the
Tour leader and winner), but it is also a plastic band on my wrist that
says "LIVESTRONG." They're sold by the Lance Armstrong
Foundation to raise money for people living with cancer. As I'm sure
you're aware, they have prompted a phenomenon of various colored
bracelets representing every worthy cause imaginable.
I wear the yellow bracelet not only to
support the Discovery Channel Team in their bid to take Armstrong to the
podium in Paris for the 7th year in a row, but because it reminds me of
Armstrong himself. He battled testicular cancer to return to cycling and
become the greatest cyclist ever. I continue to be amazed by his
commitment, dedication, focus, motivation, and extreme self-discipline.
I'm inspired by his story and it keeps me going. If he can overcome such
adversity, I can certainly reach my more modest goals.
Yellow symbolizes the winner of the Tour
de France and others who are fighting and winning against cancer. My
yellow bracelet is more than a good luck charm. It's a talisman. It
reminds me that miracles exist, but I have to help them along. I can't
sit back and wait for them to happen.

THINK ABOUT THIS

The stories of others can provide you with
not only motivation and inspiration but also a path to success.

DO THIS
|
Find your own talisman. It's probable not a
plastic wristband or even yellow. It might be a doll, a charm, or a
framed quote. What is it that keeps you inspired and motivated?

RESPOND: What They Have to Say
After last week's newsletter
encouraging road trips this summer, I heard from quite a few of you.
Rita Cleary of Trenton, NJ, wrote:
"Just to let you know I
really enjoyed your encouragement to road trip! I am in that mood right
now big time. If time and money were no object, I'd rent a small RV and
head out cross-country. My days and freedom to take off like that are
somewhat limited now, because it's important that I visit my mom who's
in a nursing home nearby every day. But . . . based on your email, and
my own wanderlust, and the fact that Mom is seeming up for it right now,
I suggested to her today that we do a DAY OUT on Wednesday. I will take
her to a historical town about a half hour from here, where we'll lunch
at the neat restaurant and then check out the quilt and jewelry stores!
A MINI-ROAD TRIP! Love it!"
Kathryn Hickinbotham chimed in:
"I have lived all over
the U.S. and Europe and I can support wholeheartedly your notion of just
getting out and going! It is so inspiring mentally, artistically,
spiritually, etc. Thanks for reminding me!"
