DO THIS:
PROMOTE YOURSELF (SHAMELESSLY)
|
|
What a terrible example I would be if I were
to teach a class called "Shameless Self-Promotion" and didn't
shamelessly promote it in my own newsletter. So, here goes . . .
If you aren't promoting yourself
consistently and enthusiastically, why should you expect anyone else to
do it?
Are you expecting people to come knocking
at your studio door and begging to see your art? Are you in disbelief
because no one has yet purchased anything from your website? How can
they if they haven't heard of you? (Ditto for gallery dealers, curators,
art consultants, and other artworld types who could be helping you sell
your work.)
It is your responsibility to share your
work with others.
This means, mostly, that you have to get
out of your studio. You may be tired of having to do it all, but guess
what? That's what you do when you decide to own a business. Don't you
think doctors would rather be treating patients than filling out
paperwork? It's just a necessary evil that comes with the job.
If you don't like promoting yourself or
if you are uncomfortable with it, I highly suggest you get over it right
away. The most successful artists I know enjoy all facets of their art
business. If you're not one of them, you should find a way to make it
fun.
Self-promotion comes in many forms:
- The impression you make when you first meet
someone.
- The quality of your artwork.
- The way you follow up with a customer.
The marketing materials (including your
website) that carry your message.
The public talk you give in a gallery full of
your work.
Your relationship with the media.
Basically, everything you say or do sends
a marketing message. Does your message need some work?
|
|
KNOW THIS
|
You have to promote yourself before you can
expect others to help you.
|
|
THINK ABOUT THIS
|
How will people know to help you until you
tell them yourself?

DO THIS

class Shameless Self-Promotion at: http://www.artbizcoach.com/classes/selfpromo.shtml.
If the timing is bad, don't worry. It's all automated
and you can start it whenever you like. If you
decide it's not for you but you still need
some motivation, do this: Share your work with
at least three new people this week. Whether you do it in a postcard
mailing or with a portable portfolio doesn't matter. What
does matter is that you do it consistently and make it a habit.
Three people. That's it.

BY OTHERS: Double Your
Sales CD
"A quick note to let you know how
glad I am to have purchased the Double Your Audience/Double Your Sales
CD and e-booklet. I am still digesting all the info, but feel you make
very valid and helpful points.
I am very appreciative of the services
you offer and for your concise and sensible information/advice. You have
done a great deal to demystify the business side of art and to give me
confidence that my presentations are as professional as
possible."--Betsy Fram, Washington Crossing, PA
