Alyson's Weekly Steps for Taking Charge of Your Art Career
 Pat Yourself on the Back

December 12, 2005

Before you pen your goals and plan of action for 2006, look back on everything you've accomplished in 2005. It is not the time to mourn over forgotten resolutions, but the time to recall the steps you took to further your art career.

There will always be more to do--more you can do. All I'm asking is that you pat yourself on the back for just a few minutes.

Are you ready? Sit at your computer or get a pad of paper out. You might need your calendar to help you recall things long past.

  • What did you do this year that will get you closer to your goals?
  • Whom did you meet?
  • Where did you go?
  • What classes did you take?
  • What habit did you break?
  • What did you read?
  • What did you see? (exhibitions, movies)
  • What habit or routine did you form?
  • What new thing did you try or idea did you implement?

If you need a more detailed list for ideas, go to the Art Marketing Action archives for last year's issue on this topic:

I blogged about my 2005 accomplishments at ArtBizBlog.com. Please leave your accomplishments in the comment section.

"Nothing builds self-esteem and self-confidence like accomplishment."
                                                       --Thomas Carlyle (1795-1881)

KNOW THIS There will always be more you can do, more you should be doing.
THINK ABOUT THIS Keeping track of your accomplishments boosts your self-confidence.
DO THIS Pat yourself on the back. Take an hour out of your day to start your list. If you've formed one of my free marketing salons from Art Biz Connection, ask other members to do the same and share your lists. Then, congratulate one another.

SETTING UP YOUR ART BUSINESS
: :
Begins Monday, January 2.
It's no accident I selected this class to start off the New Year. Class member Jennifer Mathews shares this about her experience: "The class is so much more than organization. It is really like having a career mentor. I have a half a dozen books on art marketing, art business etc., and I learned more with Alyson in 2 weeks! . . . I will definitely take other courses. I think there is great value in the amount of information she shares."
