I'm the author of the Art Marketing ACTION newsletter. I'm always telling you to do this or that. Now, I'm giving you permission to take short, ten-second breaks.
In this recording, Eric points to 6 specific situations in which artists feel overwhelmed:
- Not knowing which thing to do.
- Having too many small things to do.
- Not enough successes or payoffs.
- Finding your work boring or meaningless
- Not knowing how to present yourself.
- Not liking your own work.
He then shows how to use his incantations to overcome overwhelm.
According to Dr. Maisel,
the technique behind Ten Zen Seconds is actually very simple but powerful for reducing your
stress, getting yourself centered, and reminding yourself about how you want
to live your life. It can even serve as a complete cognitive, emotional, and
existential self-help program built on the single idea of “dropping a useful
thought into a deep breath.”
You use a deep breath, five seconds on the inhale and five seconds on the
exhale, as a container for important thoughts that aim you in the right
direction in life (described in the book) and you
begin to employ this breathing-and-thinking technique that Maisel calls incanting
as the primary way to keep yourself on track.
This stuff is perfect for the overworked, stressed-out artist! I hope you enjoy this special information and find a place for it in your daily routine.
