Here’s what we’ll cover in the 12 weeks of my No-Excuse Art Biz Bootcamp.


Module 1: Embrace a Business Mindset

You can’t market effectively or consistently until you are in the right frame of mind – the frame of mind that allows you to sell more art and make more money. We’ll look at the limitations you may be putting on yourself (probably without awareness) and what you can do as part of this program to change your outcomes.


Module 2: Identify Your Market & Venues

If you’re marketing to everyone, you’re marketing to no one – and spending a lot of time, energy, and money not reaching your ideal buyers. In this module, we’ll examine who your best art buyers are and where you can find them. You will plan to diversify your venues – based on assessing opportunities – so that all of your hopes and dreams aren’t tied up into an avenue that may not be around next year.


Module 3: Create Effective Marketing Material

You need “stuff” to take your message out into the world, but not just any “stuff.” You want to be clear that you are sending a consistent message that your art is of high quality and that you are professional in every way. In this module, we’ll talk about branding and you’ll create a style guide for all of your printed and electronic material.


Module 4: Write and Speak About Your Art

It has never been more critical to write and speak articulately about your art. Have you ever heard of anything being sold without words?! You will always be your best advocate, so why not learn to be an even better advocate? Because this subject is a book or class in itself, we will focus on developing talking points around your art. You get extra credit for revisiting your bio, About page, and artist statement.


Module 5: Improve Your Systems for Maximum Productivity

You don’t have time to waste on things that don’t work or aren’t supporting your business. In Module 5, you will evaluate the business systems you have in place and prioritize the improvements you can make to streamline your activities. Our top priority in marketing is always your mailing list, but there’s plenty more work to do if you have that part figured out.


Module 6: Show Off Your Art Online

The Internet is where many people will first see your art. You have to make sure that it’s being presented in its best light. Using the lesson contents, you’ll examine your website or blog and figure out where you could make small changes to improve its effectiveness.


Module 7: Send Email That People Act On

Email is one of the most abused tools in any marketer’s arsenal. In Module 7, you’ll look at the content of your email, which, if you’re like most artists, is probably too long and confusing. The lesson also examines what happens after your email is sent and why it might not be producing results. In order for email to be effective, people must first open it. And in order for people to want to open it, you have to have a good subject line.


 Module 8: Use Real Mail for Results

Snail mail has advantages that email will never have. First, regardless of what you think of the post office, snail mail is much more likely to reach recipients than email. Second, it’s special just because fewer people use it than email. It should always be part of your marketing mix. We’ll focus our attention on thank-you notes and a postcard strategy.


Module 9: Network Like Your Business Depends on It

The people you know are your #1 asset, so doesn’t it make sense to meet more people? You never know where you will find opportunity. Networking with more artists and non-artists should always be a goal.


Module 10: Organize and Augment Your Image Library

Images of your art must be as good as or even better than the work itself. I’ll emphasize this point in Module 10, but I want to spend more time on other types images that you can use in your marketing. A good mix of images will 1) help people relate to you on a personal level and 2) visualize your art in their lives.


Module 11: Plan Your Strategy

It would be a shame for you to have all of these pieces and not do anything with them. In this lesson, you will create a custom plan that puts everything together for you. Your focus will be on developing a marketing strategy that you can get excited about – one that fits your personality, time limitations, and financial resources.


Module 12: Maintain Marketing Momentum

Okay, you have the pieces and you have the plan, but now you have to work the plan. No one is going to make you do the work. You have to find the motivation within yourself to implement these critical steps to build your art business. In this last module we’ll examine potential roadblocks and how to set yourself up for success.


I’ve been teaching marketing to artists for more than 11 years. At the same time, I have built my business using many of the same tools that you use in your business.

Here’s what I know: Marketing Is Marketing.

It doesn’t matter if you’re an artist or a hairdresser. You still have to find people to buy what you have to sell. And once you find them, you have to nurture those relationships.

Those of you who have taken any of my previous online classes might be asking how the No-Excuse Art Biz Bootcamp compares.

  • Previous classes were 3.5 weeks long with daily lessons. The Bootcamp consists of weekly lessons with plenty of time for you to implement key parts of the information.
